Many students turned up to Beirut Dojo for the final training session of the year. The session was split into technical practice, bonding activities and drawing targets for 2006.
Most Kenshi said that they would like to try harder at school, and train more regularly in 2006. One Kenshi put the realistic yet extremely difficult task of getting her Shodan, and another wanted to be able to teach Shorinji Kempo in 2006; a target perhaps more realistic for 2008 since he has only been a member of the organization for two months.
As a teacher, I feel like a student learning from the most junior Kenshi. The 10 year old Minarai who wished to become a Shorinji Kempo instructor in one year obviously has very high limits. I feel this is crucial in being successful in life: setting high targets is the first step to achieving anything worthwhile; the next step is planning and acting towards achieving these targets.
My personal targets are: to get my Yon Dan, to develop three 1st Kyu Kenshi and at least one junior Shodan. I also set the target of opening another two Dojos in 2007 and 2008.
The training session was followed by a gathering that included food, drinks and games such as darts, twister, Jenga Jenga, pictionary, charades and a Shorinji Kempo quiz. Students exchanged presents and enjoyed each others company for the rest of the day. The more senior Kenshi did most of the organization and the tiding up before and after the party.
